International Student Folk Festival
International |
Invariably, the University of Silesia has been the main organiser of the International Student Folk Festival (MSFF) for more than 40 years, while the Student Song and Dance Ensemble “Katowice” serves as its host. We are one of the two folk festivals in Poland prepared by students with the assistance of the academic community. During the 32 editions of MSFF, we enjoyed the performances of more than 300 ensembles coming from nearby countries – among others, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Macedonia, Greece, Cyprus, Türkiye, and from afar – e.g. Columbia, Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kenya, and Benin. Nowadays, more than 400 performers who are completely in love with folklore come to Cieszyn each year. Showcasing the extraordinary variety of songs, dances, and folk costumes is the best way to promote traditional culture, both Polish and from other regions of the world. We share our knowledge of folklore with the audience also through lectures and workshops. In times of widespread globalisation, nurturing and maintaining folk traditions is not the easiest thing to do, but as the MSFF we do our best to keep proving to you the beauty of folklore. Each year during the festival the whole Cieszyn comes to life – concerts and other open-air events take place in the urban space, and colourful parades of artists from all over the world travel through the city streets. Cieszyn Silesia becomes a centre of interest for folklore aficionados, but the festival is also very popular with tourists and people from nearby towns.
The Festival has been recognized as a CIOFF® International Festival
