International |
The International Folklore Festival of Fribourg (RFI) is located in the city of Fribourg, Switzerland. Fribourg is a charming medieval town of about 40’000 inhabitants, located at the boarder of French- and German-speaking Switzerland. The RFI was founded in 1973 by three folklore enthusiasts Cyrill Renz, Pierre Stempfel and Albert Bugnon, and took place every year since then. The aim of the RFI is to preserve traditional art by giving a platform to express oneself through traditional dance and music and to share one’s culture. With an attendance of over 30’000 (600 to 2’500 per show), the RFI has become one of the most important cultural event of the region. A member of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF), the RFI is recognized internationally in the folklore scene. The festival hosts each year from 8 to 10 international traditional dance groups and takes place over 8 days during the month of August.
