The unique CIOFF® recognized festival in south Portugal, FOLKFARO, takes place in Faro (Portugal) and surrounding area of the city, in the second half of August.
Faro is the capital of Algarve - the beautiful sunny region of southern Portugal, renown worldwide for its pleasant climate, beaches outlined in rocks shaped by the sea and immense stretches of golden sand.
This international event is looking to promote and share the folklore and traditions of different nations to strengthen the friendship and the identity of each country. It includes a large variety of activities: gala show in theatre, open-air performances, international parades, children and elderly programmes, dance workshops, etc.
During 9 days, groups from 7 countries, in a total of more than 300 participants, paint the Algarve region with their colours of their traditions.
The event organization is in charge of "Grupo Folclórico de Faro" (Faro Folk Dance Group) supported by the Town Hall of Faro and other public institutions of Algarve Region, and also with the sponsorship of local companies.
